In the middle of the 1920s years Alfa Romeo RL was considered too large and heavy, so a new development began. The Alfa Romeo 6 C 1500 was introduced in 1925 in Milan, production began Prix in 1927, with the car P2 Grand as a starting point. Engine capacity was now 1487 cc, against the Alfa Romeo P2 1987 cc while supercharging was dropped. First versions were by young and touring body.
In 1928, an Alfa Romeo 6 C 1500 was released sport with an engine with two overhead camshafts. The sport version won many races, the 1928 Mille Miglia. Total production was 3000 (200 with DOHC engine). Ten copies of a charged (Compressore, compressor) Super Sport variant were also made.
