Ford Mustang

- Ford Mustang, 2013
The Ford Mustang - the icon of American performance and style - gets even more street swagger with a new design and a list of smart features that signal even more technology in the popular pony car.
More aggressive design
The new model Mustang, which goes on sale in spring 2012, offers a more aggressive design with a significantly more prominent grille. A more powerful splitter adds to that appearance. Functional heat extractors on the hood of the GT were specifically placed and designed to help move hot air out of the engine compartment and cool the engine.
Rocker panels running along the car are now body-color, making for a more premium appearance. The rear has been updated with a high-gloss black panel that connects the taillamps. Keeping the sequential turn signal Ford Mustang is known for, the taillamps also deliver a smoked appearance that matches the more purposeful look up front.
Also new for Ford Mustang design are standard high-intensity discharge (HID) headlamps on both V6 and GT cars. Signature lighting plays into the technology upgrades for 2013 as well, with two individual light-emitting diode (LED) bars accentuating the front headlamps and three LED ropes forming the iconic three-bar rear lights.
The new Ford Mustang offers a revamped wheel lineup, ranging from the standard 17-inch wheels for V6 all the way up to 19-inch optional wheels on the GT and V6 Performance Package. With updated designs, the wheels also offer new finishes and touches for a more powerful appearance.
There are two different finishes on the 17-inch wheel - machined-aluminum and painted. Three optional V6 wheels include an 18-inch polished aluminum set, an updated 18-inch painted aluminum and a 19-inch painted wheel design, with a new theme for the V6 Performance Package.
The standard 18-inch painted aluminum wheel on both GT and premium GT is an evolution of the five-spoke design. The 19-inch optional GT wheel comes with a gloss-black finish with machined face for a more sinister look.
The new car also offers mirrors with pony projection light, which casts the image of Ford Mustangs famous pony emblem on the ground when the unlock button is activated. New colors - Deep Impact Blue and Gotta Have It Green - join the existing sporty colors for 2013.
Also new on V6 and GT are optional leather-trimmed or cloth Recaro® seats that are currently available on the Shelby GT500 and Boss 302. Designed to enhance the high-performance driving experience, lateral bolsters in the cushion and seatback are used to ensure drivers have the support needed on the track during hard cornering and to deliver a comfortable ride.
The seats also come complete with integrated head restraints with ample room for drivers and passengers wearing helmets when at the track. Openings on the seatback are included for customers looking to create performance setups for their car on track days. The Recaro seats are the result of a global team effort led by SVT along with the Ford Mustang engineering group in North America, Team RS in Europe and Recaro.
New driving technologies
The 2013 Mustang with 5.0-liter engine will now deliver 420 horsepower. Based on learnings from developing the high-output 444-horsepower Ford Mustang Boss 302, the team was able to adapt several of the designs to the 5.0-liter.
The new Ford Mustang can be specified with a six-speed SelectShift Automatic™ transmission. This advanced control strategy offers the driver a choice between fully automatic operation and manual control. The system is controlled with a selector button on the side of the shifter. The shifter has been upgraded for 2013 with more modern style and improved accessibility.
The capability makes the Mustang experience sporty yet smooth. Unlike some competitors transmissions, SelectShift wont second-guess the driver with an override shift. With SelectShift, manual control is truly manually controlled.
A new option, the GT Track Package, debuts for 2013 for customers who want to push their Ford Mustang even further at the track. Available only on manual GT Mustangs with a 3.73 axle, the package gives track enthusiasts an engine cooler, upgraded radiator, performance friction brake pads and the same Torsen® differential thats on Mustang Boss 302. The package includes everything in the current Brembo™ Brake Package, with 14-inch vented front discs, unique 19-inch alloy wheels and summer performance tires.
Other optional package updates for 2013 include offering the Brembo Brake Package on both manual and automatic transmissions on Ford Mustang GT. The V6 Performance Package is now available on automatic Mustangs for the first time.
Hill start assist makes its debut on manually equipped Mustangs. The feature helps keep the car from rolling backward, making it easier to pull away when on a slope or hill. With the brake pedal pressed, if sensors detect the car is on a slope, the system is automatically activated. Brake pressure is held in the braking system and the car remains stationary on the slope for up to two seconds after the driver releases the brake pedal.
A new 4.2-inch LCD productivity screen that lets customers access information related to fuel economy and vehicle performance also makes its debut on Mustang. The screen is navigated through a five-way control button located on the steering wheel and offers Track Apps, which delivers performance metrics for drivers right from the factory. The app measures g forces, shows acceleration times in quarter-mile and 0-60 increments, and displays braking times, complete with automatic and countdown starts.
The 2013 Ford Mustang also offers customers two new audio systems for even better sound quality for incredible clarity and crispness. The optional Shaker™ system comes with eight speakers and pumps out 370 watts of power. The upgraded Shaker Pro offers nine speakers and delivers 550 watts of power.
The 2013 Ford Mustang will be built at AutoAlliance International Plant in Flat Rock, Mich.

So that customers can decide future at Ford in the small car segment between the Ford EcoSport 2013, the B-MAX minivan and agile Fiesta.
The all-rounder is the world’s first model offered by Ford, which was fully developed in South America. Since 2003, when the vehicle concept in Brazil had its world premiere, Ford sat in the region from about 700,000 units. The Ford EcoSport 2013Â Ford responds to the growing interest in Europe of compact SUV models. Forecasts indicate that doubling the demand for this vehicle segment in the next five years is expected.
The 4.24-meter-long Ford EcoSport 2013. Convinced by an equally striking as aerodynamic design Among the most striking details include the large-sized trapezoidal grille and narrow headlights. Characteristic are also the specially sculpted side skirts and the powerfully flared wheel arches. Eye also fall short overhangs of the ultra-compact SUV.

Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 Review

The ultimate Ford Mustang - Shelby GT500 - raises the bar high on performance with the introduction of the new 2013 model that goes on sale next year delivering 650 horsepower and a top speed of more than 200 mph.
"SVT keeps the Shelby GT500 on the cutting edge of technology and takes muscle car performance to new heights," said Jost Capito, director of Global Performance Vehicles and Motorsport Business Development. "We encapsulated every aspect of performance in this car - whether its 0-60, top speed, racetrack or quarter-mile times. Beyond that, the daily driver also will find this car perfectly fits his or her needs."
The 5.8-liter V8 aluminum-block engine produces 650 horsepower and 600 lb.-ft. of torque, making it the most powerful production V8 in the world. The 3,850-pound car also stays exempt from the gas-guzzler tax.
Nearly every part of the powertrain has been optimized for producing the additional horsepower, including a new supercharger, new cross-drilled block and heads, updated camshaft profiles, a new carbon fiber driveshaft and upgraded clutch, transmission and axle.
A larger, more-efficient supercharger flowing more air through the engine is key to helping produce the massive 650 horsepower. The new TVS series 2300 creates 2.3 liters of displacement and is a unique design to the 5.8-liter engine.

While punching out the 5.4-liter aluminum-block V-8 out to 5.8 liters, the GT500’s powertrain crew also updated the heads for better cooling, changed the camshaft profiles, added piston squirters and higher-flow fuel injectors, swapped the old supercharger for a larger and more efficient TVS unit that ups boost from 9 to 15 psi, and fitted a larger intercooler. The result is an extra 100 hp and 90 lb-ft compared to the 2012 model. The cooling system was upgraded to dissipate the excess heat, and a carbon-fiber driveshaft, upgraded clutch, strengthened transmission (with revised gearing), and sturdier rear axle were deemed necessary to cope with the extra grunt. To help the driver cope, the GT500 is equipped with an adjustable launch-control function.
Despite the GT500’s barbaric output, Ford has come a long way from the muscle cars of yesteryear, wherein engineers fitted a bigger, more powerful engine and called it good. A new front fascia is home to the same revised headlights as the other ’13 Mustangs, and there’s a new front splitter. That last bit is important, as Ford says the new GT500’s top speed is in excess of 200 (!) mph. Chew on that, Camaro ZL1. Heck; chew on that, Corvette Z06, with your piddling 198 mph. Overall, Ford says the 2013 GT500 has 33 percent more downforce at 160 mph than its predecessor. With a factory Mustang joining the 200-mph club, drivers will appreciate standard Brembo brakes with six-piston calipers in the front and larger rotors and new pads at all four corners.

The new Shelby GT500 will be priced right on top of the Camaro ZL1, too — $54,995, including shipping, for the GT500 coupe, with the GT500 convertible fetching a $5,000 premium above that.
The Shelby GT500 coupe debuted last fall at the 2012 Los Angeles Auto Show, while the convertible was unveiled earlier this year at the 2012 Chicago Auto Show.
For an extra $3,495, the 2013 Shelby GT500 can be ordered with the SVT Performance package, which comes bundled with a Torsen differential, 19-inch painted forged-aluminum front wheels, 20-inch painted forged-aluminum rear wheels, 265/40R19 front and 285/35R20 rear tires, Bilstein adjustable dampers, unique rear springs, unique instrument cluster and unique gearshift knob.

Ford Fusion Energi

- Ford Fusion Energi, 2013
The All-new Ford Fusion brings alive the next generation of more expressive vehicles from Ford and is the first sedan to offer gasoline, hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions - each expected to deliver top fuel economy and an engaging driving experience.
Featuring a sleek silhouette and fresh face, the all-new Fusion is the latest in a series of vehicles from Ford - following the 2011 Fiesta subcompact and 2012 Focus small cars - developed to satisfy customers everywhere who want leading fuel efficiency, helpful technologies and game-changing looks.
Ford Fusion is revealed in North America in S, SE and range-topping Titanium series and points to the next Ford Mondeo for world markets.
Triple-crown fuel efficiency
The new Fusion is expected to deliver best-in-class fuel economy across customers choice of gasoline, hybrid and plug-in hybrid sub-segments, following through with the commitment by Ford to be the fuel-efficiency leader - or among the leaders - with each new model brought to market.
Ford Fusion brings the broadest selection of fuel-efficient powertrains in the midsize car segment. It offers hybrid and plug-in hybrid alternatives, a pair of EcoBoost™ four-cylinder engines, a normally aspirated four-cylinder engine, an automatic start stop system to shut off the engine at stationary idle, front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive applications, and a choice between automatic and manually shifted six-speed transmissions.
The 1.6-liter EcoBoost is expected to deliver best-in-class four-cylinder non-hybrid fuel efficiency of 26 mpg in the city and 37 mpg on the highway. The 2.0-liter EcoBoost engine - paired with a paddle-shifted six-speed SelectShift Automatic™ transmission, available 19-inch wheels and tires, and all-wheel drive with the ability to send additional torque to the rear - is the Fusion performance option.
The Fusion Hybrid - 2010 North American Car of the Year - continues to innovate and evolve with all-new lithium-ion batteries that save weight and generate more power than previous nickel-metal hydride batteries, while raising maximum speed under electric-only power from 47 mph to 62 mph.
Ford Fusion Hybrid also features an all-new 2.0-liter Atkinson-cycle four-cylinder gasoline engine, significantly downsized from the previous 2.5-liter unit while maintaining performance standards. This innovative powertrain is anticipated to deliver best-in-class fuel economy of 47 mpg in city driving and 44 mpg on the highway.
Ford Fusion Hybrid fuel economy stands to outperform the 2012 Toyota Camry Hybrid by 4 mpg city and 5 mpg highway and the 2011 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid by 12 mpg and 4 mpg, respectively.
Topping the fuel-efficiency ladder is the Fusion Energi plug-in hybrid, aiming to be the most fuel-efficient midsize car in the world. Arriving this fall, Fusion Energi is anticipated to deliver more than 100 MPGe, a mile per gallon equivalency metric for electrified vehicles. This is 8 MPGe more than the Chevrolet Volt and 13 MPGe more than the projected efficiency of the Toyota Prius plug-in hybrid model.
The next-generation Fusion 1.6-liter is the first automatic-transmission Ford product offered with an automatic start stop system. It shuts off engine power smoothly when the car is stopped and seamlessly restarts as the driver releases the brake pedal, helping Fusion to reduce fuel consumption and emissions by approximately 3.5 percent.
Ford Fusion looks out for you
The all-new Fusion offers an unprecedented portfolio of driver assistance and convenience technologies based on sensors, cameras and radar that enable the car to see and respond.
Ford Fusion can help drivers maintain proper lane position, adjust vehicle speed to changing traffic conditions, identify suitable parking spaces and help park, even aiding drivers backing out of parking space where visibility is obstructed. Specific technologies include:
- Lane Keeping System: This class-exclusive technology consists of three elements to help a driver maintain proper lane position. Using a small, forward-facing camera behind the inside rearview mirror, the system "looks" down the road, monitoring lane lines to determine that the car is on course. The system will alert a driver if drowsiness or erratic lane-keeping is detected. The second element warns a driver with a steering wheel vibration if the Fusion drifts too close to lane markings. Finally, lane keeping aid will actually apply pressure on the steering to help bring the car back into proper lane position
- Adaptive cruise control: Using forward-looking radar, this system "looks" down the road when activated, slowing the Fusion when slower traffic is detected ahead. Adaptive cruise control enables collision warning with brake support to help slow the car if the potential of a crash is detected
- Active park assist: Employing sensors, this technology can identify a suitable parallel parking space, calculate the trajectory and steer the car to properly position it within the spot. All a driver need do is operate accelerator and brake pedals
- Blind Spot Information System (BLIS) with cross-traffic alert: Sensors in both Fusion rear quarter-panels are able to detect traffic in a drivers blind spot, providing both audible and visual warnings if traffic - unseen by the driver - is detected. BLIS technology enables cross-traffic alert, warning the driver of oncoming traffic when backing out of a parking space with obstructed views, such as between two large vans
The all-new Fusion offers the latest iteration of Fords award-winning, industry-exclusive SYNC communications and entertainment system, which enables voice-activated communication through a drivers mobile phone and interaction with the cars audio system.
Fusion also offers the latest version of MyFord Touch, allowing a driver to interact with vehicle systems through voice control, a touch screen tap or a conventional button.
Both SYNC and MyFord Touch - powered by SYNC - help reduce the potential for driver distraction through voice-controlled functionality, allowing drivers to keep hands on the wheel and eyes on the road.
Different, by design
These five elements provided direction for the design team behind the all-new Ford Fusion:
- Silhouette innovation: Fusions sleek profile sets it apart from the powertrain/cabin/trunk "three-box" designs synonymous with midsize sedans
- Perceived efficiency: Fusion character lines sweeping to the rear and thin roof pillars suggest the car is nimble and light on its feet
- Refined surface language: Fusion demonstrates that a tasteful, well-executed design does not require add-ons or visual clutter
- Technical graphics: Fusions functional design elements such as headlamps, LED taillamps and polished exhaust tips communicate enhanced technological capability
- New face: Fusion signals the next evolution in Ford global design language for midsize cars and smaller
Additional passenger space was designed-in by moving the instrument panel toward the windshield, contributing to the cabins airy, open environment. Thinner, lighter frames support the comfortable next-generation seats trimmed with fabric using recycled sustainable yarns.
Craftsmanship plus dynamics equals feel
Ford Fusion design delivers on the promise of high visual quality, with improved materials, elevated levels of craftsmanship and attention to detail.
Interior surfaces are softer to the touch and interior and exterior gaps are minimized, while extra care has been taken to upholster or cover each edge and every surface a customer can touch. When the trunk lid is opened, for example, a spring-loaded cover automatically conceals the trunk latch hardware.
Key contributors to how the Fusion feelsare the ride and handling components that maximize vehicle dynamics.
Careful tuning by Fords vehicle handling and ride team has yielded a Fusion with a dynamic character that will please a well-seasoned enthusiast while increasing the confidence level of less-experienced drivers.
Ford Fusion interior quiet reaches a new level with acoustic underbody shields and weight-saving sound-absorption material; both minimize road and powertrain noise while boosting aerodynamic efficiency to help save fuel. The all-new model adds content such as a full-perimeter hood seal to be among the midsize sedan segment leaders in giving drivers a quiet ride.
Fusion Hybrid and Fusion Energi models also are equipped with active noise control. This feature uses the audio system to mitigate extraneous road noise while enhancing powertrain sounds.
Strength and safety
Fusion is designed with customer safety in mind. Engineers increased its body strength by 10 percent, using more high-strength steels such as boron, and added dual first-row knee airbags and adaptive front airbags that vent and tether to conform to a specific occupants size, position and seatbelt usage.
The Fusion safety team targeted top-of-the-line ratings in each public domain safety benchmark, including National Highway Traffic Safety Administration ratings, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety Top Safety Pick and top ratings in world markets where the car will be sold.
The most prominent example is Ford Fusions front-end architecture, as the same car must face simultaneous - and seemingly conflictive - standards across regions. The cars front end is equipped to meet head-on and offset barrier standards for North America while still conforming to European standards for pedestrian protection - thanks to hours of computer modeling and 180 validating crash tests.
Ford Fusion will be produced at Fords Hermosillo, Mexico, manufacturing facility, soon adding production at AutoAlliance International Plant in Flat Rock, Mich. The car will appear in Ford showrooms in North America and South America later in 2012. Mondeo will be introduced in 2013 in Asia and Europe.

Ford Shelby GT500 Convertible kicks out 650 hp limits top speed
Today, Ford celebrates SVTs platinum anniversary the only way it knows how: with another Mustang variant. And as suspected, it comes in the form of a topless Shelby GT500.
Just as a refresher, at the 1992 show in Chicago the SVT Cobra put out 235 horsepower from its Vanilla Ice-approved 5.0-liter V8. Twenty years later, displacement has grown by less than a liter, but thanks to some 21st century tech and a massive supercharger, the 5.8-liter V8 in the 2013 Ford Shelby GT500 Convertible makes the same 650 hp (and 600 pound-feet of torque) as its coupe counterpart, laying claim to the most powerful production V8 in the world.
In addition to the carbon fiber driveshaft, upgraded clutch, transmission, camshafts and cross-drilled block and heads, SVT fitted its own specially developed Bilstein electronic adjustable dampers, along with six-piston Brembo calipers squeezing massive discs up front.
Like the coupe, the Bilstein setup is part of the Performance Package (why its not included as standard is beyond us) and Ford will also offer a Track Pack that includes an external oil cooler, differential cooler and transmission cooler to keep temps in check when flogging the drop top around the tarmac.
And before you ask: No, the GT500 coupes 200 mph top speed doesnt carry over to the Convertible. In a rare moment of sanity, Fords engineers saw fit to limit the GT500 vert to 155 mph – like the rest of the roofless Mustangs. Hit the jump for the full details.

Driving Impressions Ford Focus ST
Photo Gallery by QuickGallery.com
Walking up to the 2013 Ford Focus ST your eyes are bombarded with a wide bass mouth grillClose your eyes and press the push button start. Listen to the 2.0 liter Ecoboost engine fire up. Relax into the comfortable yet supportive seats. Where do you think you are? From the quiet thrum on the engine and much of the same equipment as the standard Ford Focus you really cant tell youre about to unleash 252 horsepower.
Typically, hot hatches are the type of car that you can thrash all day on curvy roads yet not have to sacrifice the versatility of more mundane cars. Behind the sport seats and sport tuned suspension lies the same car that youll find people driving everyday. These cars are supposed to be special because to the undiscerning eye youre in a Ford Focus, but you know what lies beneath.
Ford has made the ST so easy to drive. The manual shifter is and crisp and the clutch is easy on the weakest of legs. Its built for anyone who wants a sportier Focus and whos willing to drive a manual the chance to drive it and drive it well. You really appreciate this during those times when it isnt about sporty handling, but rather about the comfort on a long haul. The lack of drama at highway speeds really makes this a great choice for someone with a lengthy commute.
The biggest issue from my quick drive arose because the ST shares the same DNA as its more plebeian cousin. For a car that is priced from $25-$30,000 the materials in the cabin arent the most pleasant to touch. While they feel rugged and durable they may be off-putting to a customer looking for premium feel. The desire for dashes to be soft touch has led to questionable materials. Many times a well grained plastic would feel better.
While the turbocharger gives you the power you want, it also serves a secret and much more sinister (*wink-wink*) role. It saves you fuel, which saves you money. The Focus ST is rated at 23 city 32 highway for a combined 27.5 MPG. Compared to the Volkswagen GTI (26 miles per gallon combined) and MazdaSpeed3 (21.5 miles per gallon combined) the Focus ST is cheaper to run. Going off the combined average and using the current national average of $3.81 it costs you $0.80 less to go 100 miles compared to the Volkswagen. That margin grows to $3.87 compared the the MazdaSpeed 3. Say you drive the ST for 100,000 miles in its life you will save $3,870 in the MazdaSpeed3 and $800 compared to the GTI. That may not seem like a lot, but the money you save only goes up as fuel prices continue to climb.
Ford has struck a balance between sportiness and comfort. This isnt a raw performance car nor is it a slouch. Drivers who hate the idea of a boring compact car dont have to fret anymore. With a low initial price compared to other performance cars, those who love to tinker and those who want a fun car right out of the box will get exactly what they want. With rising fuel prices and tighter emissions Ford just might have created the perfect formula for saving driving enjoyment. Open your eyes and enjoy the open road.
